A Love-Hate Relationship with Evernote

Evernote has served as an “everything bucket” for over a decade now. In the app’s earlier days, this was a great feature.

Our needs to store things digitally has grown a lot. We now store all types of information—ideas, PDFs, tasks, and databases, to name a few. The “everything bucket” can’t serve all these needs effectively, so we turn to an ecosystem of apps to handle these specific requirements. Consider Personal Knowledge Management apps like Roam or Obsidian, or database apps like Airtable or Notion.

Meanwhile, Evernote has become bloated and buggy, while adding useless features that no one has asked for.

I am hoping Evernote can evolve its product strategy and adapt to the times. Search, storage, robust APIs, and web clippings are all strengths the app has. I would love to see them double down on these areas and simplify the app everywhere else.
